New Spin-Off Series "En el Barro" Continues Story from The Marginal

Netflix, Underground, and Telemundo Studios are teaming up to produce a new spin-off series titled "En el Barro," which continues the story from the hit Argentinian series The Marginal. The post released on CheNetflix on July 3rd teases the continuation of Gladys Guerra’s story, a character introduced in The Marginal’s first season and featured in the following seasons.

The spin-off, helmed by Sebastian Ortega who co-created The Marginal, began production in July 2024. The cast of "En el Barro" includes Ana Garibaldi, Valentina Zenere, Rita Cortese, Lorena Vega, Marcelo Subiotto, Carolina Ramírez, and Ana Rujas, with Juana Molina set to guest star alongside Gerardo Romano and Cecilia Rosetto.

Plot Synopsis and Comparison to Other Prison Dramas

According to an expanded synopsis provided by TTV, the series follows Gladys Guerra and other inmates with no prison experience as they are attacked while being transported to La Quebrada prison. The prisoners find themselves abandoned to their fate as their vehicle sinks, but Gladys manages to free herself and the others, leading them to safety covered in mud. United by adversity, this group of women must navigate the challenges posed by the prison regime and the various "tribes" that manage daily life within La Quebrada.

Fans of high-stakes female prison dramas such as Wentworth, The Yard, and Orange is the New Black may find "En el Barro" to be a compelling addition to their watchlist. The series promises to explore the personal histories and strengths of each character as they band together to form a new gang known as "Las Embarradas."
