Political Turmoil in Nepal

Nepal is currently experiencing political turmoil as the two largest parties in the country, the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, have come to an agreement to oust the coalition government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. Former Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud stated that Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML President, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, reached this agreement in the wee hours of Monday.

The agreement between Deuba and Oli includes sharing the prime minister's post on a rotating basis for the remainder of the parliament's term. The Nepali Congress has 89 seats in the House of Representatives, while CPN-UML has 78 seats. Together, their combined strength of 167 is enough to secure a majority in the 275-member House of Representatives. Media reports have suggested that Oli will lead the government in the first phase of the remaining term of Parliament under this arrangement.
