Indian-Origin Woman in Singapore Sentenced for Duping 12 People
A 33-year-old Indian-origin woman in Singapore, Priscilla Shamani Manoharan, has been sentenced to three years in prison for duping 12 people of more than 106,000 Singapore dollars in various scams. The court, presided over by Judge John Ng, also imposed a fine of 2,000 Singapore dollars on the guilty woman. The case against Manoharan involved multiple instances of fraud that took place over the course of several years.
Manoharan's fraudulent activities began in 2022 when she defrauded a person of 57,250 Singapore dollars by claiming to make a payment for a transaction related to a Housing Board apartment and falsely stating that her daughter had died, followed by her son. She continued her fraudulent schemes by impersonating a lawyer and sending fake invoices for legal fees, along with creating fake WhatsApp chat records to deceive victims into believing urgent financial help was needed for medical fees.
Despite facing charges and pleading guilty to six counts of fraud, including renting out rooms in her apartment, the conniving con woman persisted in deceiving more individuals. In one instance, she duped two people of SGD 11,800 earlier in the year, adding to the string of offenses she had committed. The court took into account a total of fourteen charges against Manoharan, reflecting the extent of her deceitful actions and the impact on her victims.
