Kejriwal sent to 14 days judicial custody as CBI’s plea accepted

Arvind Kejriwal Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody in Corruption Case

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has sent Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to 14-day judicial custody after the demand by the CBI in a corruption case related to the liquor policy. The CBI had requested this during the hearing, and the court accepted the demand, with Kejriwal set to appear via video conferencing on July 12 at 2 pm. Kejriwal had been in CBI custody for three days before the court ruled for 14 days of judicial custody.

During the court hearing, Kejriwal’s lawyer demanded that the CBI disclose the material collected from the investigation based on the application filed, but the judge stated that such details should be left to the court and cannot be revealed to the accused. The CBI lawyer asserted that the accused cannot ask for case diary details, but the judge indicated that the Investigating Officer could mark relevant pages of the case diary. Kejriwal’s lawyer referenced similar medical instructions given during his custody with the ED and requested the same with CBI.

Kejriwal’s lawyer highlighted that the CBI had not asked for police custody but had requested judicial custody, which was opposed. After hearings from both sides, Kejriwal was sent to judicial custody for 14 days, pending a bail application set to be filed on Monday or Tuesday. The Delhi Chief Minister had been arrested by the CBI in March over irregularities in the liquor policy, and later by the ED on money laundering charges. Moreover, the CBI’s actions have come under scrutiny, with allegations of recreating fictional narratives akin to James Bond’s fantasies.

Aam Aadmi Party Criticizes Central Government for Kejriwal’s Arrest

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party criticized the central government for Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, accusing them of employing false accusations to keep individuals in jail. Singh highlighted the granting of bail by the ED court to Kejriwal, indicating innocence in the eyes of the law before his arrest by the CBI. He condemned the government’s actions as dictatorial and referenced past instances of individuals being wrongfully detained. Singh’s remarks emphasized the need for accountability and justice in such cases where evidence is lacking.
