Heavy rain triggers deadly flooding in Delhi, resulting in three fatalities including 2 children who drowned

Heavy Rainfall Causes Tragic Accidents in Delhi

The rainy season has begun in Delhi, bringing both relief and trouble to the capital. The past two days have seen heavy rainfall, leading to two tragic accidents in different areas. In Sirsapur, two children lost their lives after going to play in rainwater in an underpass. The bodies of the nine-year-olds were recovered from a pit filled with rainwater. Similarly, a 60-year-old man drowned in waterlogging in the Okhla underpass, leading to his tragic death.

According to the police, the incident in Badli occurred at 2:30 pm, with about 2.5-3 feet of water filling the underpass. The continuous rain and thunderstorms have caused severe waterlogging in several parts of Delhi, with the capital receiving 228.1 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, the highest recorded in June. The Lieutenant Governor conducted an inspection of flood-affected areas and directed agencies to clean drains promptly. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh in the coming days.

Tragic Death of Digvijay Chaudhary in Okhla Underpass

Digvijay Chaudhary, a 60-year-old man, lost his life due to drowning in the water-filled Okhla underpass. The underpass, connecting Delhi to Noida, has been blocked by waterlogging for over 24 hours. Chaudhary was on his way to Okhla on a scooter when the tragic incident occurred. Despite efforts by the police, he was declared dead at the hospital.

DCP Rajesh Dev confirmed the incident and mentioned that Chaudhary had left for work in the Okhla Industrial Area early in the morning. Unfortunately, he became a victim of the accident, leaving behind a family that relied on him as the sole breadwinner. Local MLA Sahiram Pehalwan expressed frustration, stating that he had written to authorities multiple times about the dangerous conditions in the Okhla underpass but saw no action being taken, leading to such tragic outcomes.
