Pre-Monsoon Rains Bring Relief to Delhi-NCR

The recent pre-monsoon rains in Delhi-NCR have provided much-needed relief to residents from the oppressive heat. The sudden change in weather on Friday morning brought heavy rain and strong winds to the region, causing flooding on roads and disruption in transportation. In addition to relief from the heat, the rains also resulted in damage, with reports of trees breaking and even the roof of Terminal-1 at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport collapsing. This led to a rescue operation to save the four individuals trapped under the collapsed roof, who were later taken to the hospital for treatment.

Water Woes in Noida

Noida city also faced challenges as roads were flooded with water at several locations, causing traffic congestion and breakdown of vehicles. The situation in Sector-95 was particularly severe, with heavy water accumulation leading to a reduction in vehicle speed and breakdowns around 6:30 in the morning. This caused inconvenience to commuters heading out for work, encountering flooded roads along the way.

Meteorological Department’s Alert and Monsoon Arrival Predictions

The Meteorological Department had issued alerts for heavy rains in Delhi on 29 and 30 June, along with predictions of rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms on 28 June. The forecast also indicated a range for maximum and minimum temperatures throughout the week, expecting light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Noida from June 28 to July 2. The arrival of monsoon in Delhi is anticipated between 29 and 30 June, based on historical data indicating a similar timeframe in previous years. Weather forecasting agency Skymet suggests that the monsoon will cover a significant portion of the country, including the Indo-Gangetic plains and northern mountains, possibly reaching Delhi earlier than expected on June 28.
