Restrictions on Travel Visas During Hajj Season in Mecca
The Home Ministry of Saudi Arabia has announced a ban on passengers holding travel visas to enter Mecca during the Hajj season. The ban is set to be in effect from May 23 to June 21. According to the Saudi Press Agency, foreigners with visit visas are urged not to travel to Mecca during this time period. Instead, anyone looking to visit Mecca and perform Hajj will require a specific Hajj permit, as Hajj is not permitted on a visit visa.
Additionally, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has ceased the issuance of Umrah permits via the Nusuk app, an online platform for obtaining Hajj permits. Saudi officials have warned that individuals entering Mecca with only a visit visa will face severe penalties and hefty fines. Offenders will be subject to a fine of $2,666, which will double for repeat violations. Foreigners found to be breaking these rules will be deported back to their home country and barred from reentry into Saudi Arabia.
Strict Penalties for Violating Hajj Rules
The Ministry of Hajj has emphasized the imposition of strict punishment for those caught breaching Hajj regulations. To deter illegal pilgrimages to Mecca without a Hajj permit, the ministry has suggested the possibility of imprisonment for six months and a fine of 50,000 Saudi Riyals.
