Boeing presents new idea for Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster
The Indian Air Force currently has 11 Boeing C-17 Globemaster strategic airlifter aircraft, used for cargo and transportation purposes. Recently, Boeing presented a new idea for this aircraft – to transform it into a strategic missile bomber. In a video demonstration, Boeing showed how a hypersonic missile revolver can be set inside the aircraft, allowing for rapid deployment of missiles towards predetermined targets. This idea has generated significant interest worldwide due to its innovative nature and potential impact on the military capabilities of India.
The unique feature of this hypersonic missile revolver is that it operates with an electromagnetic catapult mechanism and dual drum design. Instead of bullets, missiles are loaded into the revolver and rapidly launched backwards from the aircraft. The missiles, such as the X-51A Waverider hypersonic cruise missile showcased by Boeing, Travel at speeds of Mach-5 or higher, reaching heights of up to 21 kilometers. This demonstration has sparked discussions about the significant enhancement of the Indian Air Force’s strength if this Technology is deployed on its C-17 Globemaster planes.
