A man in a suit-salwar and red bindi flees after assaulting his wife on a bus

Man Attempts Escape After Attacking Wife and Brother-in-law, Arrested on Bus

Odisha police arrested a 42-year-old man who tried to escape after attacking his wife and her brother by boarding a bus dressed as a woman. The man was sitting among women passengers in a blue suit and pink salwar, with a red bindi on his forehead and his face covered with a dupatta. However, his beard became visible from the dupatta, alerting a fellow passenger who then raised an alarm. Other passengers stopped the man from escaping and informed the police, leading to his arrest by the Kendriya Vidyalaya police.

Accused Sent to Jail Custody After Bail Plea Rejected

The accused man, identified as Vikram Das, was taken into custody by the Kendrapara district police. It was revealed that the passengers on the bus were unaware that Das was attempting to flee after attacking his wife and brother-in-law in Madhusudanpur village under Patkura police station. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time. Pradeep Pradhan, the district police officer, stated that Das had been sent to jail custody after his bail plea was rejected by the local court. This incident comes after Das was previously arrested in November 2018 for the killing of three family members, but was later acquitted due to lack of evidence as all 29 witnesses turned hostile.

Man’s Identity Revealed by Beard, Leading to Arrest

The attempt by Vikram Das to escape disguised as a woman on a bus came to an end when fellow passengers noticed his beard peeking out from his dupatta. Despite his efforts to blend in with women passengers by wearing traditional attire and covering his face, the beard gave away his true identity. The quick thinking of the alert passenger who spotted the discrepancy, along with the cooperation of other passengers and the timely response of the police, led to the arrest of the accused. The incident highlights the vigilance of citizens and the importance of community cooperation in maintaining law and order.
