Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Anime Remake: Latest Updates

Partnership Between WIT Studio and Netflix for One Piece Remake

At Jump Festa ’24, a significant announcement was made regarding a partnership between WIT Studio and Netflix to produce a new version of the popular One Piece anime series. This remake will feature condensed episodes and updated animation, and will be exclusively available on Netflix worldwide. Since 2020, Netflix US has been adding new seasons of the One Piece anime, along with Movies and the upcoming live-action adaptation, making it a top platform for One Piece content.

In a surprising development, it was revealed that a remake of the One Piece anime is currently in the works. WIT Studio will be handling the animation for this project, with Netflix set to distribute the anime to its massive global audience.

Details About the Remake and Episode Count

The first season of the One Piece remake will cover the entire East Blue Saga with 25 episodes. This significantly reduces the episode count from the original TOEI Animation adaptation. The adaptation will exclude the Warship Island Filler arc, making the East Blue Saga consist of 53 episodes, spanning from the Romance Dawn arc to the Loguetown arc. Each episode has an estimated runtime of 24 minutes.

Previous sagas in the One Piece anime have had varying episode counts with and without filler, highlighting the issue of pacing. The fan-made project, One Pace, aimed to address this by drastically reducing the runtime and filler episodes of One Piece. The new adaptation is expected to address pacing issues and provide a fresh take on the beloved series.
