In the video that went viral, Elle was seen forgetting the lyrics to Dolly’s song “Marry Me” during the tribute concert. She began swearing and announced to the audience that she was intoxicated. Following the performance, the Grand Ole Opry released a statement on social media apologizing for Elle’s behavior during the show. Elle shared in the podcast that she received harsh criticism for her actions on stage that night and had a rough day leading up to the concert.
Elle shared that she was going through a difficult and painful period in her life at the time of the performance. She revealed that she suffers from severe PTSD and was not in a good mental space that day. Elle explained that the headliner who was supposed to perform at the tribute show pulled out last minute, and she was asked to take their place. She admitted to drinking too much before the show and not being present in her body during the performance.
Following the incident, Elle wrote a hand-written letter to the Opry and Dolly Parton to apologize for her behavior. She mentioned that Dolly called her afterward and offered kind words of support.
